GE Mark IV

The GE Mark IV represented a big step up from the earlier analogue Speedtronic generations. It introduced digital control logic to turbine management covering speed regulation, fuel control, and protective functions and was widely deployed across gas turbine installations from the late 1970s through the 1980s. Many of these units remain in active service, particularly in refineries, chemical plants, and power generation facilities in regions where infrastructure replacement moves slowly.

Mark IV hardware uses a specific set of control boards, I/O cards, and processor modules that are distinct from later Speedtronic generations. These are not plug-compatible with Mark V or Mark VI components. When a board fails in a Mark IV system, the replacement has to match the original specification exactly, which is why sourcing becomes a genuine challenge as OEM availability shrinks.
