The Bently Nevada Rack Interface Module (RIM) is a vital component of the 3500 Series Machinery Protection System, serving as the primary interface between the rack and configuration or diagnostic software. Installed in Slot 1 next to the power supply, the RIM enables seamless communication using a proprietary protocol, facilitating the retrieval of configuration settings and machinery health data.
Designed to work in tandem with external communications processors such as TDXnet, TDIX, and DDIX, the RIM enhances overall system flexibility and integration capabilities. Although it shares common functionalities across the rack, the RIM does not participate in the critical protection path, ensuring the system’s core monitoring functions remain unaffected by RIM operation.
In applications requiring Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR), a specialized TMR RIM is available. This advanced version introduces a powerful monitor channel comparison function, which continuously compares outputs from three redundant monitors. If discrepancies exceed configured thresholds, the TMR RIM automatically flags the channel as faulty and logs the event for further analysis.
